Consumer preferences influence the producers' vegetable assortment
"Growth Technologies" carried out the complex analysis of current state of vegetable growing in the protected soil, balance of a consumer demand and the market offer of greenhouse vegetables in the southern regions of Russia. Research covers the period from 2007 to September, 2014.
Within this research more than 50 operating industrial greenhouses, farms and new greenhouse projects located in Southern and North Caucasian Federal districts were studied. Features of their economic activity, the operated capacities, volume and the product range, plans for reconstruction and modernization are revealed.
Results of research showed that now investors of branch prefer to build industrial vegetable greenhouses in the southern areas of the Russian Federation. Especially many new greenhouse projects are noted in Krasnodar Krai, in Rostov, Volgograd, Astrakhan areas, in Adygea, Stavropol Territory, Dagestan. The obtained data allowed to predict further development of greenhouse business in the south of Russia, to calculate the potential of each area as a part of the Southern Federal District and North Caucasus Federal District from the point of view of deficiency of the local offer, solvent demand of the population, and also interregional export of the grown-up vegetables and greens.
Introduction of grocery embargo in August, 2014 conducts to increase of investment appeal of year-round vegetable growing with use of modern agro technologies and the equipment.
